Delays are pretty annoying but are bearable. Lost luggage is troublesome but at least it provides you with a good excuse to go for shopping. But landing at your favorite destination for a holiday and waking up the next morning realizing that you have a fever is just a vacation killer.
The bad news is that airports are not full of germs. In fact, airports are the breeding grounds for germs, germs and more germs. Everything from the check in counters, airport bathrooms, terminal floors to conveyer belts harbor bacteria and viruses. The good news is that you don’t need an artificial bubble blockade to protect yourself or your family. Just follow these tips and you can safely make out through the airport and travel healthy without any viruses and have a lovely vacation that you deserve with your family.
Touched a wet bathroom door handle or the dirt-lined bins near the security check? Okay, I guess the picture is clearly drawn in your mind. Millions of travelers pipe through the airport everyday so when you touch something at the airport then do wash your hand. This one is particularly for those who travel with kids – those little curious hands want to touch everything. So it’s best you carry a hand sanitizer with you or purchase one from the airport.
Helpful Tip: Many kids don’t like the alcoholic scent of the hand sanitizer so for making the experience pleasant, purchase a scented sanitizer. Or if the child has a scratch or bruises on hand then gently wipe it with baby wipes, bandage it properly and then apply the sanitizer.
Though the idea of pairing a bag of salted chips with coffee or coke seems to be good, the healthiest option in-flight is having bottled water. According to studies the low levels of humidity on the plane changes the mucus in your mouth and nostrils which leaves you vulnerable to viruses. To keep yourself hydrated on the plane, carry a water bottle with you, eat watermelon slices or chopped cucumber or you can ask the flight attendant to serve you plain yogurt with your meal. This will give your immune system a boost. Now this is what I call a win-win situation.
At first I used to think aisle seats are the best, but now I know they are literally the worst and the reason is that there is always a lot commotion in the aisles with passengers coming and going, attendants maneuvering with food carts, suitcases being put over your head. With so much going on in the aisle seats, you must also be aware of the guy sitting next to you with a bad flu? That guy just touched your seat before going to the restroom. If you are a poor unlucky soul stuck in Hades, the simple solution is to carry disinfectant wipes with you. Wipe your food tray, armrests and your hands before you eat the food.
Spring is here, but that doesn’t mean you should wear flip flops to the airport. At the security check lines you will be asked to take off your shoes and trust me airport terminals are not free from bacteria or viruses. So I’m pretty sure you don’t want to get sick, just wear socks so even if you have to take off the shoes, your feet are still protected and will remain infection-free.
Flying tomorrow evening? Make sure you get proper sleep of eight to nine hours. Grab a few fruits and carry them in your bag, charge your eye-pad, carry an eye mask with you so that you can shut your eyes on the flight for some time. This is vacation time so stop thinking about the rest of the world: like your meetings, your boss’s emails or deadlines. Just sit back and relax.
