America’s paradise consists of three main islands – St. John, St. Thomas and St. Croix, and this mixture of islands offers a mixture of foreign and familiar which everyone can enjoy. The Virgin Island’s history, multitude of activities, exotic beaches and no passport-required status make these island’s a very popular destination for Americans. Visit the Virgin Islands to experience the beauty of nature, and engage in a tropical adventure few other places in the world can offer. Here is a list of top things to do on these stunning isles.
Two thirds of St. John Island is covered by this National Park. It is an adventurers dream offering a choice of 22 hike trails through a lush tropical setting. Within its confines it also has Caneel Bay, Trunk Bay and Annaberg Plantation. While there is no fee to enter the Park itself, Trunk Bay beach has a fee of $4 but given the stunning beauty of this beach, this fee is worth it. At Cinnamon Bay you can rent sailboats, kayaks and other equipment for free and explore the waters. If you want to camp overnight you’ll have to reserve a campsite in advance.
Possibly the prettiest and most photogenic shoreline in the Virgin Islands, you’ll certainly want to visit his famed beach. Its white sands, turquoise waters and tropical feel will remain with you long after you have left it.
This planation gives an insight into the 18th century life of Cruzans. The Whim has tour guides on site who will give you interesting facts about the island’s sugar cane production and the life of the slaves who worked there. You can stroll through the windmill, look at the bath house and visit the great house of this Frederiksted Museum.
This golf course, located on the island’s northeast side features 18 holes with a stunning backdrop. You’ll feel like you’re on the popular show LOST – where they play golf on the island. Golf enthusiasts will have a challenging time on holes 13, 14 and 15, collectively known as ‘The Devil’s Triangle’.
This lemon colored fort is a nicely preserved stronghold overlooking a northern edge of St. Croix. The best way to visit this is to take a walking or driving tour. Be sure to see the Danish Custom House and the Danish West India and Guinea Company Warehouse where founding father, Alexander Hamilton worked as a youth. A visit to this fort will give you very interesting details on the island’s history.
Other places of note are the Cruzan Rum Distillery in St. Croix, Main Street in St. Thomas, Sand,y Point National Refuge (Croix) and the Annaberg Planation in St. John. A visit to the Virgin Islands certainly gives you a huge variety of options on what to do. Their location and general ease of access is a bonus.
