Hong Kong is China’s first ‘special administrative region’ having a high degree of autonomy. It is governed under the principle of ‘one country, two systems’. It has developed into a major financial center of the world – 3rd after New York City and London and is a globally recognized trade hub. Hong Kong is a ‘World City’ as well as one of the 8 Alpha+ cities, ranking fifth in the latter list of cities. The Heritage Foundation Index of Economic Freedom names it’s the freest market economy in the world. Owing to a lack of land, Hong Kong has a vertical architecture. It is known for its skyline and deep natural harbor. Many people visit this city each year for both leisure and business. Here is a list of things to do in Hong Kong.
If a solitary image could encapsulate all of Hong Kong, it would be the stunning panoramic view from Victoria Peak. This famous vantage point provides a breathtaking view of the entire city as well as a fine view of one of the best harbors on Earth. Hong Kong’s skyline is arguably one of the best in the world. And as you gaze beyond the city, you can see the rest of China fading and simmering in the background. It is truly magnificent. Hong Kong’s restlessness and energy can clearly be seen from atop this Peak. Try to arrive just before sundown, so you can see the city come to life at night. This is at the top of the things to do in Hong Kong.
If you’re prepared to spend somewhat on the high side, this attraction is just for you. Having a soak at the Intercontinental on Kowloon is a relaxing experience. However you either need to be a guest or a day client of the spa – both of these cost rather steeply. However in return you’ll get a fine third floor spa deck located right on the edge of Victoria Harbor. There are 3 different pools maintained at different temperatures. These pools are called infinity pools for a reason as they appear to vanish into the surroundings (in this case the sea). You’ll also have a front row view of the Hong Kong skyline, pool butlers at your disposal. This is definitely worth taking a dip in.
Starting in central Kowloon at the junction of Temple Street and Jordon Road, this rowdy thoroughfare terminates five blocks later on Northern Kansu Street. It seems like a classic recreation of Chinatown. You’ll find just about everything in this sprawl of a market.
Hong Kong’s famous cross harbor ferry is (nowadays) an eight minute journey. But it’s still worth riding it. It costs around 0.30 dollars for an upper-deck seat (avoid the even cheaper lower deck, unless you enjoy the press of humanity or the reek of unregulated marine diesel). On this engaging little ride, you’ll sail past shipping vessels of all kinds and take in widescreen views of the Hong Kong Island coastline from Quarry Bay to Western.
These are a few of the things to do in Hong Kong.
