Backpacking through Europe is a rite of passage for many, particularly for American college students. The summer trip they take remains forever with them, a cherished memory. The continent is a premier holiday destination for all age groups. Even if you aren’t planning on backpacking through it, a long vacation is definitely recommended. Each country is every bit as interesting as the next, with its own rich history, sublime architecture, beautiful landscapes and amazing food. You can literally spend years here and not see everything. This Europe Travel Vacation Guide (especially for backpackers) will tell you what you can expect on your trip to Europe – costs and sights to see.
The cost of accommodation depends a lot on the city you’re staying in. The same accommodation can be a lot cheaper in places like in Berlin, and much more expensive in Paris. Generally staying in a dorm room will cost you anywhere from 18-40 Euros. Similarly expect rooms in popular cities to be expensive. Generally Eastern Europe is cheaper than the Western side. Cheap hotel rooms start at 30 EUR and have breakfast, private bathroom as well as Wi-Fi.
Again the cost of food, generally speaking is cheaper in the eastern states. Generally if you cook your own food you can get by on 65 EUR per week which is reasonable. Otherwise sandwiches, pizzas, sausages cost 4-7 EUR. Eating in restaurants will cost 20 EUR per meal (with a drink). If you eat cheaply however you can get by in 15-20 EUR/day.
Transportation is varied. Contrary to popular opinion, traveling by train is not cheap. And fast trains between cities can cost several hundred euros. Slow trains cost a hundred or so and are reasonable for travel within cities. The recommended travel method are buses, which are a lot cheaper. The main bus service is Eurolines whose services extend throughout the continent. You can hitchhike in most places especially in Scandinavia.
Now we take a look at the things one can see and do in Europe. Again it should be noted that the entire continent is so full of stuff that no one can list everything even if they tried let alone shrink it into a single article. This will only give an idea of the most visited places, however this Europe Travel Guide recommends searching on your own as well before your trip. You’ll be spoilt for choice.
