Airports are not the most comfortable of places. They are stark with bad lightening and an unnatural aura. Add to this the vast number of people, the crowds and the sheer noise of activity around you, the environment becomes something you desire to get away from (unless you’re in the first or business class lounges) but the majority of the passengers are not so fortunate. So what happens when you’re forced to stay at the airport longer than you have to? Why would this happen you ask? Well because of airline delays. These can occur for all sorts of reasons like bad weather, technical issues with the aircraft or some other reason which won’t make sense to the passengers. The bottom line is that you’re stuck at the unforgiving airport because of airline delays. Here are some tips on how to deal with this unfortunate scenario.
The best way to while away the time is to use one of your electronic devices. Try to bring charges for your mobile in your carry-on. Watching a movie or show can kill time quickly.
It’s no secret that the hungrier you are the more irked and short tempered you become. Eating can reduce anger/frustration more quickly than most things. And while you’re at the airport during the airline delay be sure you don’t go hungry. There are several restaurants in the airports and once you hear about a delay, rush to them in order to beat the crowds which will inevitably swarm them. Waiting is bad, waiting on an empty stomach is far worse.
We mentioned that waiting isn’t bad at all if you’re in the finer areas of the restaurant and these areas are the first and business class lounges. You can escape the crowds and noise of the airport by entering these. They offer free snacks and a much more relaxed environment than the other areas of the airport. However usually you have to be the holder of a first or business class ticket to access them or join the airlines loyalty plan or something of the like. You can either become a member on the spot or pay a small fee to enter this little space of respite.
There are sure to be other passengers annoyed at the flight delay, go talk to them. It’s easy to strike a conversation in these circumstances and this helps pass away the time. Plus who knows, you might even have made a new friend.
If the delay is the result of a mechanical or technical issue on the plane and not the weather then you can switch to a different flight on a different carrier even. The airline’s application or a website such as Kayak will help you find alternative flights easily. The cost may be different but it would be worth avoiding the wait.
With these tips you can put up with airline delays much better, as at some point you’ll experience one for sure.
