Mind Your Inflight Manners: Airplane Etiquette

Politeness is something that doesn’t go amiss anywhere. And it’s an invaluable trait to practice around most people, especially towards fellow passengers in the plane. You probably know that long flights can be tedious and they can be made even more unpleasant by the presence of an overly rowdy and rude passenger. Make sure you aren’t this guy by following proper airplane etiquette which is outlined below.

With The Aisle Seat Comes Great Responsibility

And it’s just polite to automatically get up when one of the person in the window or middle seat wants to get up and use the washroom. It’s discourteous to grumble about getting up when nature calls on one of your fellow passengers.

The Crew attending The Plane Isn’t To Blame

We agree that 8 dollars for a small bag of potato chips is completely ridiculous, however we don’t agree on blaming/yelling at the flight attendants who are serving them. They did not set these prices and are only doing as ordered. This is an important part of airplane etiquette.

That Smelly Smell

Of socks. Most people are bound to kick off their shoes during the long flight. And it would be a travesty if someone’s feet were smelly. It’s not like you can open the windows. Avoid being that person by buying new socks and donning them on before the flight. Or you could use something to cover the smell like powder.

Don’t Be Too Intimate With Your Partner

Intimate With Your Partner
You may be headed off to a romantic vacation or honeymoon with your significant other and may feel the need to be extra romantic but avoid PDAs midflight. They are just awkward for everyone. Save your passion for the hotel room.

Help People With The Luggage

Those struggling with it of course. You might spot an old lady/man having difficulty putting their bags in the luggage rack overhead. Offer to help them. It’s only nice. Besides from assuring everyone what a nice person you are, you might make a new friend.

A Plane Isn’t Your Living Room

So avoid yelling. Why would you yell? Well some airlines allow you to watch sports games live so you might be tempted to spill a little of your enthusiasm like you do when you’re watching the game at home. Avoid this. And be careful not to guffaw during a funny scene in a movie. Try to keep the laughter to yourself. Airplane cabins have a lasting echo effect.

Don’t Ruin Lines

Trust us, everyone hates people who gate crash. Just wait in line.

Drink In Moderation

Drink In Moderation
This is for your own good. Drinking too much causes dehydration which will elevate the jetlag you’re bound to suffer later.

Be Polite To Flight Attendants

They have to deal with a lot of people and their job is one that demands a lot of patience. The last thing they need is someone being rude to them. Plus being polite will get you the things you need like an extra blanket and those glasses of water that you require.
Be mindful of airplane etiquette whenever your board a plane.
