Murphy’s Law states that if anything can go wrong, it will go wrong. Now you may not have heard about Murphy’s Law but subconsciously you may have been aware of it. Now call it this or what you want but there are some travel truths which are unavoidable. They’re not good nor fun but since they almost always happen you should be aware of them (if you’re not already).
It’ll always be too hot or too cold and sometimes this variation can take place on the same flight. It will never be ‘tolerable’, so you should better know of it beforehand.
The thermostats in most hotel rooms vary between wild extremes and never seem to set the temperature at a reasonable value – you’ll either be irritably sweating or slightly shivering as you sit in your room.
It’s the effort that counts. However no matter how much you practice simple phrases in front of a mirror; when you speak them to a local, they will bemusedly stare at you and then automatically switch to English for your comfort. It’s not heartening but it will almost always happen.
It won’t be, that’s that.
This one is logical – there’s a time constraint on most journeys and you simply cannot see everything during that time frame. So you’ll just have to quietly accept the fact that there are some truly remarkable experiences abroad that you’ll miss out on. Prioritize and make sure you do the things you really want to do, while also leaving some time to just do nothing.
Packing too many clothes is what most people do all the time – people like to be too careful and this is a result of that thought process. And this doesn’t just go for first time travellers – veterans of travel make this mistake too.
Perhaps it’s the psychological effect which makes all the lines you’re in seem to move the slowest – whatever the reason is, just resign yourself to the fact that at the passport section (or most sections for that matter) you’ll get the guy who takes forever in clearing one person.
While this can be down to bad planning, it still happens more than people would like to admit so it’s include in this list of travel truths. The trick is to make a budget and take 40-50 percent more.
A rude cab driver, or a friendly waiter, a guy who scammed you, or a friendly local. An incident involving these people or the like will make its mark and you’ll rate your trip mostly on this. This happens, whether we like to admit it or not.
These were some travel truths which everyone faces, and if you’re on the lookout for them, you’ll see they are true too.
