A moderately sized country located in North Africa, forming a border with the Atlantic Ocean, Morocco is a delightful tourist spot. Its culture, landscape and atmosphere is amazing –but sadly it is very underrated as a tourist spot. If you do visit this jewel in Africa, be sure to do some things listed below. Here is a list of top things to do in Morocco.
Camel trekking in the Sahara desert is a unforgettable and unique experience. Camp in the desert, beneath a starry and clear sky. While riding a camel may not be as comfortable as it looks but the experience is pretty much worth it; and you’ll agree as you gaze upon the enchanting shades of the desert closely, the shifting sand dunes, camping with Bedouins and far from any kind of population. It is relaxing in its own way. And the silence when the wind dies down is second to none when it comes to peace.
They cover most of Morocco so you’ll spend a lot of time in the various (low, middle and high) parts of the range. If you’re specifically looking for an adventure be sure to traverse the High Atlas range, climbing to reach one of many farmhouses which dot the mountains. You can even stay at some of them with a local family. Hiking through these beautiful mountains you’ll also get a glimpse of Mount Toubkal which is the highest peak in North Africa.
The historic hearts of most cities in Morocco, the medinas are partly residential areas, part shops and part food market. The tiny, twisting streets turn around in all directions, weaving their way around shops, markets, restaurants and homes. The buildings are quaint and stick together, and you can spend hours exploring these places. They are a maze – a great one if you love quaint old places. Be sure to drink tea and eat some sumptuous food from the food stalls as you wander the streets. However be sure not to go off too far from the beaten path – stick to places which have lots of people as pickpockets and potential thieves are considerable here. Still one of the best things to do in Morocco it helps to be on your guard.
This was a major settlement and trading center during the days of the Roman Empire. Today it is one of the most well preserved remains of the Roman Empire. And the best part is that it is not crowded at all so you can explore this amazing piece of land by yourself. Most of the city is still unexcavated so the site has a very raw feel to it.
This Kasbah is astounding. It has been featured in many movies and shows like Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia and Game of Thrones to name a few. It is extremely picturesque and you’ll enjoy exploring it as well as the amazing view it offers.
This was a list of some things to do in Morocco but there is plenty more to this great country.
